i have a pair of sony xsl 1236 900 watt sony xplod speakers the thing is i brought them with a sealed box with no air holes the thing is that wheni play my music i get more of a thud then a boom wot will happen if i put 2 ports just at the back of the speakers would i get a better sound please help

Depends on the design of the box (1 chamber or 2, and overall size), the size of the ports, and the specs of the subs. Most sealed enclosures are smaller that ported ones. You would have to check the subs specs for minimum size recomendations of sealed and ported enclosures. Also remember that addeding ports will only give you tighter response at certain frequencies (depends on the port size (diameter and length)). You could try adding pollyfil inside the enclosure and see how that works as well.

Donate to the12volt.comFrom my personal experience of building over 100 enclosures, if the sealed box sounds that incredibly bad, it almost HAS to be the incorrect air space for the subs. Sealed boxes are very forgiving when it comes to airspace, meaning that in most cases its not much of a problem as long as the air space is around the ballpark figure of the recommended air space. However, as I stated, if it sounds that bad, the box probably has the wrong air space. From my experience with Sony subwoofers, I would give the 12's around 1.5 cubic feet of air space per woofer. Check the airspace of your enclosure, and post it.
Sounds like you’re really off on the volume of the enclosure or the low pass frequencies are poorly adjusted. Do you know the volume of your enclosure and what do you have in terms of Xovers ? And what are they set at?
