1998 Jeep Cherokee / new install Pioneer HU DEH5000 just bought the jeep. took old HU out and found a wiring nightmare.Anyways, I believe I have all the wires hooked up properly, no sound. Just a couple questions.I hooked up the HU blue/white (amp power) wire to the vehicle RED / white (switched 12 volt)is this correct? Also, coming from the vehicle where the 7 pin connector would be I have a solid green (red stripe) wire not hooked to anything. Also, coming from the vehicle, where the 5 pin connector would be I have a black (yellow stripe) wire not hooked to anything.I did not see these wires in this sites diagrams. Could this be the problem. This vehicle has no amp installed and no power antenna. I appreciate everyone's time.

There is a factory installed amp. You need to connect the radio's Blue/White wire to the wire in the vehicle that turns on the factory amp. It may be listed as power antenna, depending on where you are getting your info from.

Re-wired everything,soldered all wires,still no sound.Cannot find anything that resembles a factory amp.Could a bad speaker/speaker wire be my problem? I appreciate everyone's time.

DId you look under the rear seat? Are there any unused wires in the factory radio harness? What color are those wires?

After finishing up all the wiring last night, I searched and read quite a few more posts here on 12 volt, trying to find out where an amp could be hiding. It was late and I never looked but will tonight. The only wire not used is a black (yellow stripe). I hooked up the HU blue amp wire to a green (red stripe) wire. I will post again when I find out more later today. (now at work)

This is why you buy harnesses, to prevent these headaches if you don't know 100% what you're doing.
Do you have the Infinity or Infinity gold system. It should say it on the speaker grills.
The factory amp should be either under the rear seat OR under the driver seat if it has the Jensen sound system. (I don't think it is for this year, but worth to mention).
IF there is no amp, then one of you speakers is grounding out. Check for continuity to ground on your speaker leads.

Hmmmmm......It might be time to consider paying for an install...the fella was right, harnesses are great and come with useful instuctions. I'm not trying to be a smartass,it just seems like your best course of action.

I checked the continuity to ground on all speaker wires last night. I found one bad wire (left rear positve) and replaced both wires. We now have sound. Just wanted to say thanks for all of the input and having patience with a rookie. This forum has been great. music soothes the savage soul
