Hi there! I have 4 12" Audibahn dvc subs. Im connecting them to an old school Soundstream tarantula 1600/2 amp. Problem is...this amp will only go down to a 4ohm load in mono! How can i wire all 4 subs to get a 4 ohm load or is it not possible?

Thanks for your're help!

sorry! They are 4 ohm coils on the subs. the tarantula amp can handle 2-8ohm stereo and 4-8ohm mono. I want to hook the speakers up to run mono@ 4ohms. One other question...if my amp is rated at 1600watts at 4ohm mono....what would the amp put out if i ran the 4  4ohm dvc subs at 8ohms. i see how i can wire them to get an 8ohm load, but not 4ohm! will that be half the power? 800 watts mono?

Thanks

Derek

Your best option using all coils with that amp is 8 ohm bridged. Yes you can figure about half the full output of the amp.

If the SUBS can handle it you could wire just one coil of each sub to get a 4ohm bridge making full power from the amp, but the subs will only handle about 50-70 of there rated rms that way, but if they can handle that much power it could be done that way. 4 single 4ohm coils Option 2.

the subs are rated at 700watts rms. so if i run all 4 @ 8ohms....my amp will be pushing 800 watts to all 4? the amp is rated 1600watts rms @ 4ohm mono.

Thanks again Mr. Reed for your're quick replies.

I just wasn't sure if there was a way to series/parallel the voice coils to somehow come up with a 4 ohm load!

The amp will put out 800rms at 8ohm roughly. for 200rms per sub. You should be fine power wise if you only use 1 coil per sub wired to get your full 1600rms at 4ohm if they are 700rms per sub. That would be about 400rms per sub. With proper gain settings you should be fine.
