I need help and i'm hoping you could help me. I have a 2002 pontiac grand am gt and i have a monsoon radio system in it. I'm trying to install an amp and subs in my car. someone told me that i have to bypass the factory amp and radio because it is high quality and if i hook up  a line out convertor to the rear speakers to run my rca cable that it could blow out the convertor and my amp. so i need to know how i can install my "system" with out damaging anything. I also need to know where i can run  a power wire for the amp. someone suggested the ignition wiring harness, but i don't know how to get to it. i hope you can help me out.
thank you
frank

I believe on a monsoon head unit you can buy a peice that plugs directly into the back of the head unit and it has your RCA output wires. Hit a search engine on the net and it shouldn't be to hard to find. that would be the best way to get your signal to your amp. As far as power wire I would hook it directly to the positive terminal on your cars battery. I don't know what guage wire to use since I don't know what kind of amp you have. But I would neve hook any amp off of anything else but you battery. If you can't find the above unit I was talking about you could get and amp with a high pass and run your signal wires off of your rear deck speakers or use a converter. I haven't heard about anything blowing out using one of those but I am not a pro so you sould get a second opinion about it blowing.

thanks, i'll give it a try... the power wire that i'm talking about is a ermote wire that will turn on the amp when teh car starts.

For the remote wire you will want to tap into the pink wire located in the ignition harness. That will provide you with a switched + 12volt source to turn your amp on and off.

You should be able to access your ignition harness by taking apart the bottom of your dirvers side dashboard, right above your legs. You should be able to then see the steering column and that will have your ignition wires on it. If you have more than one pink wire, like my car did, you could just shave some insulation off of the wire and check each one with a volt ohm meter. When your ignition key is in the off position you should have no reading, when turned on you should be reading around 12 volts.

The center consoleis held together by clips not screws. You just need to get your fingers underneath the plastic and pry the console upwards.

ok... I called PAC for the oem-1 and they said they don't have any information on my 2002 grand am, so does anyone know where i can get one of these parts? Once i get this part will it plug directly into hte back of the head unit and give me RCA outs or do i have to cut and splice wires together and need another part? thanks
