Ok, so I want to hack an aux into the aforementioned deck. Hear me out. I searched and I know there are mini amps and all that that will do this for me but here is the issue. I want to keep my crappy deck and not invest anything else into this because the car has been STOLEN 4 TIMES!! no joke. it's come back every time but the only thing they leave in there is the stereo.. lol.. a couple of times the stereo got pulled out.. maybe they thought, wait, why am i stealing this? lol.
So, I have hacked a headphone cable onto the tape deck head itself, but I don't like the issues that that creates. I am trying to tap into it somewhere after the pre-amp. After checking out the components it turns out it uses a Toshiba TA7281P amp.. I am just not sure where to tap into it or how. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i don't see this being relevant but i figure i should comply with the rules...
the car is a 94 Acura Integra hence the high theft rate... lol

I can only imagine that tapping into the head wires has some serious noise issues. you should be able to find a better place to connect it. You will need an amplifies computer speaker that you can sacrifice the input cable. Cut the end off of it and strip the wires. There will be an outer shield and 2 center conducots. Attach the shield of the cable to the chassis of the radio. Now wih a tape playing in the mechanism, touch one of the center conductors to each contact of the connector that attaches the cassette mechanism to the mainboard of the radio. Hopefully 2 of the connections will have audio. You wil need to somehow isolate that connection from the cassette mechanism. Either cut a trace or remove a component. Istall a 10 microfarad non-polarized capacitor on the connection that goes to the mainboard. One cap on each of the 2 that had audio. Other end of the cap to the center conductor of your aux cable. Ground the shield of your new aux in cable to the tuner pack of the radio. It is the easiest place to solder this wire to.

thanks "i am an idiot" .. but, really?... wow.. i was hoping for something a little simpler.. the thing with the cassette is that yes, there is distortion if the volume on my SIGHphone is anything but just barely above the lowest most setting and if i don't set the EQ to flat.. then also the stereo's bass needs to be lowered as well... the stereo sucks anyways and this just makes things worse... if you can imagine.. lol

If there are 2 output chips in that radio, chances are there is a 7280 and a 7281, check carefully to make sure. Those ICs are capable of several configurations. You will need to use the computer speaker to tell me which pins of the chip have LOW LEVEL audio getting to them. On the 7280, check pins 1, 2. 4 and 5. There wil be audio on 2 of them. I need to know which 2 they are. 7281 check pins 8, 9, 11 and 12. which 2 of them have audio.

The stereo is out of the car and completely taken apart, so I can tell you that I only see the 7281. Also, I pretty much eliminated the use of the tape deck ( I don't really care about this thing, if I could tear everything away and just have it push my mp3 audio out to my speakers I will be set. ) I can't imagine i would be able to use a dmm to determine the info you need. I am not very familiar with car stereos and what nots. But I do fiddle with basic circuits and tinker with random things.
