faceplate isolation

Not sure if anyone can find this information useful, but I took the time to pin out the 16 pins on a KD-AR560 faceplate so I could install the faceplate away from the head unit. Viewing the faceplate from the back so the 16pin is on the right hand side, here are the pin functions from left to right (1-16)

1. DC (-)
2. Left Audio
3. Audio Ground
4. Right Audio
5 -12. Data
13. DC (+) 9V
14-16 Data

What length is the extension?

For extensions, usually the pin functions are irrelevant since it's a 1:1 mapping.

But the functions are useful if (for example) data has limitations - like a limited length before needing twisted pairs etc, or knowing what pins to add capacitors to remove interference etc. (In this case though it looks like parallel data & addressing - as interference proof as a steam engine.)
And of course for anyone that wants to tap into any of the functions - maybe another audio interface...

As Olspark has already stated, there are limitations on the distance of the data wires.  I have done this Many Many times many years ago, on older less data reliant decks.  Never had a problem, recently we tried a newer alpine deck.  Would not work.  Initially had a 10 foot extension.  Figured it had to be a length issue, and it would not work with anything longer than 2 feet.  So before you get all into the job, make the extension and test it.

This ended up going on a yacht. I used cat6 for data, and supplied it with its own dedicated power. The unit and faceplate were approx. 35ft apart.

I know this is an old old thread, but could you please shed some light on how you did this? You basically supplied the face plate with it's own 12v source and used cat 6 cable for the data connections? Does that sound about right?
