When installing an aftermarket stereo in my 2002 Dodge Neon, I somehow managed to kill the ignition wire. The car still starts, but turning the key doesn't signal the stereo to turn on. So what I did was connect my head unit's ignition wire to the constant +12v wire and simply removed the faceplate to turn it off.

Last month that head unit was vandalized so I'm putting the stock stereo back in. However, when I wire it the same way as before (bypassing the ignition wire) the clock stays on all the time (even with the unit off) & I'm worried that it'll eventually kill the battery.

How much power does a simple clock display drain? Enough to kill the battery after a couple days? If so, I need to fix this dead ignition wire. How would I go about doing that? I already checked all my car's fuses and they're fine.

It most likely is a fuse problem. If you can't find any blown fuses, you could take a power tester and test what wire would have power when the key is turned. Try the cigarrete lighter.

did you actually use test light to test ALL fuses? in cabin and under hood? what you are saying that the accessory wire is now gone doesnt make sense,.. you know?
