Hey guys, first post on the site.
I am upgrading from a 2001 to a 2006 impala. I have an amp, subs, and After Market deck in my '01. I really like the features of the Stock '06 deck so I will be looking into selling the after market deck. However, I would still like to install the Subs/Amp. I was just wondering what all I would need to do/buy. I know the stock deck doesn't have RCA outputs for the Subs.
-Line Converter?

Yes, install the loc, at the rear speakers is the easiest but you may want to install behind the deck if you plan on changing the radio out later, use the rear speaker outputs which should be yellow-/brown+ and light blue-/blue+, let me know how it goes, Chadillac

oh ok gotcha. doesnt sound too complicated. I am curious about loss of sound quality. Will I hear a dramatic drop off in the intensity of the subwoofer? Obviously, there will be some but hopefully not too much

as far as subs go, I wouldn't worry about "sound quality" loss. LOL.
I suggest installing the converter at the radio.

An amp with a flexable crossover and bass remote would be helpful when using the factory radio.

anybody have a particular output converter that has worked well for them? I don't want to buy just any one.

Pac makes some decent models. If you are using the stock radio, i suggest getting a LOC that includes a remote turn on wire. One less thing to fuss with.

If you dont mind paying, audiocontrol's OEM intergration models offer LOC's with EQ and bass boost options.

What I would recommend is that you find a LOC (line output converter) that uses transformers. The cheaper ones use resistors and can melt under extreme usage. They will also put more of a load on your head unit causing it to run hotter. The better LOCs using transformers have a high input impedance and will not load down your head unit.
