1999 jetta glx w/bose

as the name stats the vehicle is such. my friend purchased the vehicle and it has a bose sound system in it. he said that it was only in the back. i think its because he doesnt believe that a small amp can do the whole car but i was wondering what are the chances that they could be none bose up front? also how hard would it be to replace?

nobody knows anything about this?

The radio diagram I have does not show any external amplifiers for this vehicle.

Bose systems usually employ several external small amps to power all of the speakers.
The small amps work because that use driver/speaker with very low impedance so they are super efficient.
An off the shelf speaker is typically 4 ohms where Bose uses 1 ohm or less.

In response to you question via PM, it may or may not be necessary to replace the Bose speakers with Bose. If any of the speakers are good, just take a reading with an ohmmeter to give you an idea what the nominal impedance is. If they are around 4 than off the shelf speakers will probably work ok. I say "ok" because Bose is designed to work with their own components. The built in equalization may not be optimal with other drivers.
