identifying stereo wiring with test light

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times before but what are the best ways to test with a testing light for constant, accessory, ground, illumination and antenna remote?

It's not really the type of car, it's the methods of identifying wiring I'm trying to learn.

Like when you test for the illumination, do you put the end of the test light on constant and then turn the head lights on and off?

The best thing to do is to place the test light back in your tool box and use a decent volt meter. Test lights can damage electronics and set off air bags.

With a volt meter, I like to ground the black lead and probe with the red lead. Find your ground, constant, ACC first, then find your speakers. Once those are done find any remaining wires you need. Also, don't forget when testing for your voltages to turn the headlights on and off to make sure you didn't find the illumination wire.
