Hey guys,
I am ready to pull my hair out with my system its giving me nothing but grief. I have an 10" alpine type x in a small sealed box, powered by a bassworx 1200.1d amplifier all hooked up to a pioneer deh-p6700mp. The sub is wired to give the amplifier 2 ohms which means 800w rms the sub is receiving. I cant even get the gain to half without the sub sounding terrible and distorting. The sub has never been over powered so if it is damaged I have no idea how. I turn the gain down to where it doesnt distort and you can barely hear the sub it sounds like its 100w sub. The LPF is set to about half way and that is all I can really tune. I had the head unit professionally tuned before so should not be the problem. I have also changed the RCAs 3 times with no improvement.
So I guess what I am really asking is what are some of the most common reasons for really bad distortion? Any tips for me?

also the head units preamp voltage is only 2v could this be the issue?

the recommended size of the box seales is between .5 and 1 cu ft . Is the box within parameters?

try different set up. Test your sub. use just one voice coil then the other

The box is just under 1 cu ft, I just tested both voice coils seperatly and they both do the exact same thing, they sound fine lower but once turned up bad distortion.

I know how to set the gain, but my point is when i turn it down to the level where there is no distorion you can barely hear the sub, and it is 1000 w rms you should definitly be able to hear this.

Check your VC polarities, and if you know how to set the gain then is your amplifier clipping?

Do you have settings for your sub channels on your h/u ? Check those as well.I had a similar problem and it was solved by adjusting my sub channel volume from my h/u.
