whats up everyone? nubcakes to forum, I have an audiobahn awt12x 12" sub 4ohm dual voice coil with an autotek 1000 watt 2 channel amp. stock radio all in a 08 vw gli jetta my everyday driver, ran off back of radio, everything was working great till yesterday with heat & all, sub stopped working. amp is on. I turn the car on, amp comes on, sub starts playing hits maybe 3 to 6 beats & stops! but amp is still on. any ideas? is 1 coil shot? what can I do? usually sounds good for what it is, had it in last 4 cars. any help is greatly appreciated

I am personally leaning toward an overload. Does it turn off at any volume, or just when you are beatin' on it?

I'd ask you to remove one voice coil at a time (it only has to be one wire) do rule out an impedance overload.

You also mentioned the amp is a two channel. Is it bridged? If it's bridged, you are running at 4-ohms per channel or 1-ohm per channel. That's a guarantee. The 1-ohm configuration is likely not safe - there aren't many REAL 1-ohm stable amps out there... If not bridged, you are running at 4 ohms per channel, and I'd ask again to disconnect one side, determine if the issue resolves, and then do the ther side, again, determining if the issue resolves.

Report back with your findings...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Haem, he has a lone dual 4ohm driver.  I too am betting that he has it bridged at 2 ohms.  Haem asked all the right questions, please answer each of them and we can further assist you.

the volume stays on all the other speakers, even at low volume the sub stops, yes the amp is bridged. and the sub is wired (jumper wire + to - on 1 coil to other then other + & - to amp)

when hooking up 1 coil can i bridge it? if 1 of them work
