Installed Alpine head unit using wiring harness kit. Owner of vehicle said hvac light did not light up however he wasnt sure that they ever did( bought the truck used). Vehicle was taken to dealer where they diagnosed and said aftermarket stereo caused the combo meter to short. They reinstalled the factory head unit and replaced the combo meter (speedo/tach) to solve problem. Owner insisted i put Alpine back in knowing that same problem may occur, and it did...no hvac lights. any explanation why this is happening?

The ground wire of the radio is connected to what color wire of the vehicle?

Cut the radio's ground wire off at the point in which it connects to the metra harness.  Ground the radio's ground wire to the chassis of the truck.  They have been known to produce the harnesses with a wire out of place.  It seems as though you have the radio grounded to the car's illumination wire.
