What is best to use; the HU crossover, an active crossover or the amp crossover?
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X591, kenwood 61/2 components, MTX 4 channel amp, 10" eclipse sub, eclipse XA1200 sub amp. Dodge Nitro.
The crossover in the radio and the amp are active crossovers. There is virtually no use for an outboard crossover in today's time. The crossover in your deck will be easier to access for adjusting. Crossovers in decks have several available crossover points. Some amplifiers have variable crossover points that can be more easily fine tuned. But you have to make the adjustments at the amplifier. So it is really up to you. More flexibility (depending on the type of adjustment) on the amp, yet accessible from the drivers seat with the deck. You have to decide.
My first question is what do you intend to use the crossover for? What do you want it to do?

DYohn; I asked that because I have an old crossover from a previous install and I wasn't sure if I need it; right now I'm controlling everything from my HU and I didn't know if it was the best option. Thank you.
DYohn caught something about your system that I overlooked. You mentioned Component speakers with a 4 channel amp. You also said active crossover, I think he was thinking that you meant passive crossover. He is thinking that you want to eliminate the passive crossover that came with your component speakers. There was a reason he asked what you were trying to do. We still need to know what you are planning so we can help you. When I saw 4 channels, I thought 2 channels on the front and 2 on the rear. He saw (possibly) 2 channels on the mid bass drivers and 2 channels on the tweeters without using the passive crossover that came with the components. Which situation best defines yours?
I'm sorry; I didn't mention that I'm running coaxials on the rear channels, I might try bi-amp my front set as soon as I figure what I need and how to do it. Thank you.
