no sound from speakers only subs work

I have a 92 civic dx hatchback and in it I have a clarion dx555mp source unit. When I bought the car it only had the deck and two front door speakers. I have replaced the front speakers with new mtx thunder door speakers and installed 2 x 5 1/4 speakers in the back. I also installed an amp and two subs in the car. Since the previous owner had the stereo hooked up for two speakers, to install the rear speakers all I did was splice the connection to the front speakers to the rear ones. It worked alright because I could just change the fade setting to turn up or down the subs. The other day I put my friends amp in my car because his was more powerful. It was great until my speakers stopped working. The subs continued to work but no sound. I replaced his amp with mine and nothing changed. Since had more time and information on my cars and decks wiring, I decided to hook up the sound system how it was meant to be. I looked at proper wire diagrams for both and matched up every wire. Unfortunately, still no speaker sound but the subs still work.

well, you might have a set of damaged speakers. I can tell that for what you said 'bout you putting a stronger amp provided by your friend.

This can be proven since you hooked up everything back the way it was. Why don't you try to take them speakers off their place and test 'em on another system, or directly to your head unit's built-in amp.

You have to remember that you can't just hook any speaker to any amp. Since you didn't post what power your speakers can handle and the amp power either, I can't be pretty sure of what I'm saying here. The thing is that even when you have powerful speakers, they still can be blown out by a too strong amp. Your gear may suit specifications to each other, but sometimes your equalization may dig your speakers' grave. Too high equalization makes speakers vibrate faster thus heat does its work. Too low equalization may shake the speaker that much to simply blow it out. Apparently nothing may have occurred to them, but you should take a look at your speakers.

My door speakers are each 260 watt. My woofers are 600 watt each and my rear speakers are 140 watt each. My deck puts out 53w x 4. My amp is only a 300 watt and thus doesn't shake the world with two 600 watt subs lol. I don't think I blew the speakers out because I had the amp wired directly to the subs from the battery not to the speakers. I'm not positive it is not the speakers though so I will try that.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that the amp is only feeding the woofers,and the speakers are connected directly to the deck, right? Does the deck have RCA outputs for all 4 channels plus the subwoofer output?

If it is so, then try another deck, maybe the deck's built-in amp got toasted, specially if you were using the equipment at high volume levels.

I LOL'd about yout comment about shaking the world too, I was just trying to address the problem generally, you now? LOL.

There is a very good chance that you thave a damaged output chip in your radio.  They usually do not like being run at 2 ohms per channel.
