I have an '01 Grand Cherokee (no Infinity system) I'm installing a set of RE components in. My question, (and I've searched the entire interwebs in vain for the answer) where do the speaker wires for the dash speakers end up? They don't appear to be part of the harness (the harness has front and rear doors), I assumed they were wired to the front door speakers, but I don't see any wires the same color.
Bottom line, I want to use the factory wiring to connect my tweets in the stock dash location without running new wires. I was hoping the dash speakers connected to the door speakers so I could just wire them into the RE crossover in the door.
Sorry if that's confusing, but hopefully somebody understands what I'm trying to say.
There is a lot of water that goes through your door. It is really not a good idea to install crossovers in the door. You will get much more life out of them if you were to mount them somewhere that they will stay dry.
Not too worried about water. Very little, if any, moisture gets into these doors. The paper cone 6x9s I just removed show NO signs of water damage (not even water spotting), and they were totally unprotected in the door cavity. I'm pretty sure the GC doors are totally sealed when the windows are up.
Anyways, back to the topic, anyone know where my dash speakers are wired?
The bottom edge of the window is designed to keep water off of the speaker. Open the door, get down on the ground and look for the drain holes in the bottom of the door. Have someone run water on the outside of the glass. Notice the amount of water that comes out of the drain holes. Or plug the drain holes and see how long it takes for the door to collect some water.
Just gave it a shot while I have the panels off. Had the wife spray, douse, and do everything else she could to get water all over the door/window with a hose. After 5 minutes of pretty hard spraying and pouring, NO water made it into the door cavity. Not a drop. So I'm pretty confident in putting the crossovers in there. RE recommends they be installed in the door cavity. They are even magnetized for that very reason.
