So I bought a car recently(99 Cougar) with his radio installed. The orignal owner told me it has a problem with randomly shutting off occasionally. I pulled the deck out to check the ocnnections for loose wires and I could find none. Its hooked up directly to the stock speakers, there are are no amps in the system.
If I turn the volume up I may be able to get a good 3 minutes out of it before it shuts off. When it does turn off it loses all settings. Like the 12v constant loses power. However sometimes it will shutoff and not come back on. I had to pull the radio fuse and put it back in to get the radio to come back on last time. Of course it lost all settings again. Sometimes it will do like a brown out where the power kind of dips and comes back without losing any settings. Thats only happened a couple of times. If I keep the volume lower I can get about a 25 minute drive out before it shuts down on me. If I raise the volume then less. Does it sound like a deck problem or a "constant" wiring issue? I was thinking the internal amplifier may be causing the problem. I just don't have an external one to test my theory with currently. Any Ideas?
Thanks

The One&Only!
It's probably a constant problem....just run a wire directly to the battery and you should be ok.
