Im about to get a 2010 Bmw x5 but wondering if the sound system upgrade is really different/better than the stock. I would assume yes, but have read various reviews that say its not a big difference in sound. I love my music and want to know from anyone who has experienced both the stock sound and premium sound on the 2009 and 2010 bmw x5. I might buy new or used 2009, not sure but this sound question really is important to me. Thanks
You won't know until you listen to it. Some of the higher-end OEM systems sound pretty decent, and BMW offers one designed by Mark Levinson (Harmon) so it might be really good. But the bottom line is ANY sound system can be upgraded, so don't buy a vehicle based on that alone.

Thanks for the reply and am pleasantly surprised to know that the X5 came with a Harmon system. (or did you mean the premium sound package was the Harmon System?) The dealer near my town asked me to come with a CD to play it in both vehicles (with and without premium sound) so I hear them both and decide. Now my worry/question is will it be an easy task or difficult to upgrade the audio system in the X5 (2010).
I've done audio upgrades for myself and a few good friends before, but would certainly prefer not drilling holes and cutting anything into my next vehicle.
I will know better next week when I get to hear myself, and as crazy as it sounds, I am basing my next vehicle purchase almost on the sound system! I am an audio fanatic, if there is such a thing. Will post my results next week.
