99 blazer speaker wiring / hu overheating

I have a 99 Blazer which has a 6 speaker setup from the factory. (2 on dash, 2 front doors, 2 rear doors) In the dash there are only 4 pairs of speaker wires. I have replaced all 6 speakers with MTX's which are 4 ohm speakers.

At the plug to the head unit I get 4.5 ohms on the rears, and 2.6 ohms for the front, so I'm assuming the dash/front door speakers are setup in parallel. My old Premier HU worked just fine with this arrangement, but I just installed a new Kenwood KIV-700 and it is overheating and cutting power output. (The Kenwood is rated at 4-8 ohms)

I've searched around and see that resistors and subs aren't a good match, but can I put a couple 2 ohm resistors on the front speaker outputs and call it good? Part 2, if that's what I need to do, how exactly would I do it?

DOn't do that just trace where they tie together and series them.

I can do that, I wasn't sure if the fronts and rears were supposed to be the same. The deck will be ok with the fronts running at 8 ohms and the rears at 4?
