Subject: Simple sub and amp wiring question

Well, it's a simple question...but I've never done this before, so I figured I'd ask.
I currently had my amp hooked up to one Sony 12" sub. So, I had the amp bridged, so everything was going into the one sub. Previously (from incorrect information from someone else), I had it bridged going to one speaker, and then I piggybacked the wires to another sub, and it sounded INCREDIBLE! But then I blew the amp because the ohms were too low. d'oh.
But now, I again have two subs in another box, and would like to know any other way to hook it up (besides stereo) that would sound good. Having it bridged to one sub sounds better than stereo to two subs...go figure. What I was trying to accomplish was what it sounded like when I blew the amp. Any ideas?

How many ohms are the subs and are they DVC, and how many ohms stable is your amp?

The subs are 10", 300 watts, and 4ohms each.
As for the amp...here's what the specs say...
Output Power:
Stereo:
65 Watts ´ 2 @ 4 Ohms, 20–20 kHz, 0.5% THD
100 Watts ´ 2 @ 4 Ohms, 20–20 kHz, 10% THD
75 Watts ´ 2 @ 2 Ohms, 20–20 kHz, 1% THD
Bridged:200 Watts @ 4 Ohms, 1 kHz, 1% THD
And no, I don't believe they're DVC.

Unless the subs are DVC, the only way you can safely power them with your amp is to run them at 4 ohms. You can do this either by putting a sub on each amp channel, and getting between 65-100 watts for each sub, or you can bridge the amp and drive one sub at 4 ohms with 200 watts. Kinda hard to say which one would give you greater output, cuz the two subs have more surface area and thus more potential output, but depending on how hard you're able to push them before the amp starts to distort, the single sub with 200 watts might be louder. Hafta think about that a lil more.

No, that's about right...the one sub bridged sounds a LOT louder than the two of them on stereo. Actually, I just might move back to my one sub scenario. This box is kind of bigger than my trunk and weighs a bit too much.

esmith69 is correct the only way to safely run both subs is in a 2 channel configuration. Your only other option would be to go back to the 1 sub bridged .

well, now I can't remember what I did to blow it up, whether it was #1 or #2 below...I'm pretty sure it was the first one. What about #2, does that do anything?...in the bridged mode?

It was the 1st one which will give you a 2 ohm load that blew your amp. If you run the 2nd setup you will have an 8 ohm load and your amp won’t put out that much power. But you can try diagram #2 and see how it sounds it wont harm your amp.

It looks like I'm in a situation with basic wiring as well. I have one RF HX2 RFR3112 12" sub that I planned on using an RF 1000bd amp with. I'm putting it into a Miata trunk along with an 851X amp for my front speakers. I was told that with the single sub I would have to go at 4 ohms with that amp-500watts total, as opposed to 2ohms at 1000. When I told the RF dealer that I wanted to use ONE HX2 RFR3112 12" sub , he told me the 1000bd amp was what I wanted. Can someone clarify.
------------- If you're getting old-turn it up so it still sounds the same-If you can't turn it up any higher -get a bigger amp.
