I am making a custom fiber glass enclosure for my 8 inch JL audio W3 and I am not sure on how much air space this sub needs to be on the inside? I am putting the enclosure in the back right rear of the trunk.

Alright in a sealed enclosure the volume would be 0.3. Do I have to add the Driver Displacement: which is 0.03 . Do I combine both numbers for my total enclosure internal area?

It should be the volume AFTER you've removed the displacement of the woofer. So 0.33 is what you should aim for. This is just going off of the numbers you gave me.

Also don't forget to take into account the displacement of the woofer itself.
So:

.3 (your goal) = Total Volume - Bracing - woofer volume.

so you mean if the box is 3 cubic feet and then when i put the sub in that subtracts from the 3 cubic feet so i have to compensate for the lost volume?

I am really confused on this box volume and how big i need for it to be.

You need a .33 cu.ft box to compensate for the driver displacement.

Or slightly bigger depending on how much bracing you do. 0.33 is a pretty small box though so you shouldn't have to do a ton of internal bracing.

Yes:
(woofer displacement) + (internal bracing) + (target net volume) = TOTAL VOLUME your box needs to have.

Example:
.3 Qft (woofer) + .5Qft (bracing) + 3 Qft (desired airspace) = 3.8Qtf (total air space needed)

That would be .33 if those measurements are outside measurements, and the enclosure wall thickness is 3/4"
