sony 1000 watt amp

I have a 1000 watt 2 channel amp that is 2ohm stereo stable... I was wondering if it would be safe to put a 2 ohm load on one channel and a 4ohm load on the other channel

Check the specs to make sure it doesn't say 2 ohms stable in bridged mode. But otherwise, yes. It should be fine. I'm running my fronts at 2ohm and my rears at 4 ohm. No problems.

Huh?  Got that backwards, don"t ya?  If an amp is stable at 2 ohms bridged, it's stable at 1 ohm per channel.  But, to the OP, this is a Sony we're talking about here.  Don't push it too hard, and it is fine (for the amplifier) to load it with different impedances on each channel.  Can't say that your results will be fine, though, listening-wise.  Assuming left and right channels, and twin (except for impedance) speaker systems for stereo, one side will get twice the power as the other.

I'm betting, though, that you are using this two channel amp for fronts and rears, putting two pair of speakers on each channel.  Tell me it ain't so.

Haha naw I've actually got 2 12s at 2ohms one one channel... I've got a 500 watt amp pushin front an rears... I was wonderin cuz I had another 12 that I was gonna put on the other side of the sony 1000

Fact.  Odd number set ups are usualy not the best way to go (except for 1 sub, that is fine), you are either going to push your ohm load to low, and mess up your amp from overdriving it, or you are going to not have the ohm load low enough, and be wasting power, by not taking full advantage of what your amp has to offer... unless you have an amp with a regulated power supply, then what i am saying doesnt really matter matter.  NO, Sony's dont have that.  If your amp has one, you know it, because you paid a good amount of money for it. 

Haemphyst, that is just not nice.  You are not supposed to laugh at the guy who bring in sony, at first.  You are supposed to try to get him to upgrade, to "not junk," then, when he doesnt , it is ok to laugh, point and laugh, fall down laughing, make fun of his car and/or mama while laughing, tell him to QBAB, or even do all of the above.

Ok so screw all u hatin on sony... Its better than stock.. But anyway I put tha other 12 on tha 1000 jus for giggles an it doubled my bass... An u think if I push it too hard it'll blow tha amp?

I'm still laughing over Haemo's "a capacitor melts a battery", though it took a while for me to see the joke. (We used to audio weld caps to beams; batteries didn't quite do that....)

Not that I have car amps, but otherwise I quite like Sony.
My door speakers were Sony, though it cheeses me that $28 Audiolines have equivalent sound quality! But the ~$150 Sonys were probably the best at the time. (HU is Alpine.)

i can totally agree with "lesterjustin29"   he's right its better than stock. anything is better than stock,lol.
