so i installed an aftermarket radaio on my 2002 oldsmobile intrigue, but with some tweaks to get it to work. I think, a big i think, the ignition wire for the car doesnt send a 12v to the radio, i get a 0.3v when off, a 2.35v when in accessory and a 3.45v when in on position. i couldnt find any other wires that give a 12v when in accessory or on besides the illumination wire. So i hooked up my aftermarket radios ignition wire to the dimmer/illumination wire. But the problem is i always have to turn my daytime running lights on manually and have to have my dimmer all the way up (which isnt a big deal cuz i always have it up) But is this safe to do, and is there anyway i can get my ignition up to a 12 volt so i can use that instead?

To the left of the radio there is a loom of wires in black hockey tape. There is a PINK ignition wire there you can use as the switched ignition.

There's not really an ignition wire in that vehicle, it's a data wire, so that's why you're not getting a 12v signal. GM started doing that with a lot of their vehicles in 2000, I believe. Started with Pontiac then Oldsmobile and then the others in the family.

I'd do what the other person recommended and just grab that pink wire. It's your best bet.

I've got a co-worker that swears you can use a relay to get 12 volts out of that data wire, but I haven't tried it and I don't see a need to when it's so easy to just run an accessory from the ignition harness.

you'll want to grab the accessory wire not ignition on this car which is orange in the ignition harness. obviously fuse it accordingly.

this is the wire i used, it only gives me the .2v when off, and around 2-3v when in acc and on. im thinking of just making a toggle switch from 12v constant and connecting it to the ignition on the aftermarket radio so that i can just turn it on and off that way, better than always having my running and parking lights on.

so i looked at the pink wire, looks like its going to be hard to get to. so im thinking of doing what i explained in my last post.

If you're going to do that, why not just wire both the accessory and constant from the radio to the constant on the car-side harness and just manually power off the radio each time instead of wasting time throwing in a toggle switch since the radio obviously already has a power switch built in.

Just take your car into a car audio shop, give them $20 and have them run the accessory wire for you tell them you can handle the rest on your own.

i'm not sure you're tagging the right orange wire in the ignition harness.....
