you can put the tweeters anywhere you would like but the amp should be set on high pass and you can set your amp to different frequencies to get a little more mid bass out of your components and still have the amp on a high pass filter. if your put the amp on a full pass you could drown out the tweeter with frequencies that it cannot handle.

Do you have woofers installed on your system?   Are your rear speakers 6 X 9s?  Do you know what it sounds like when a speaker is being beat to death from receiving too much bass?

I agree that you should probably set the crossover to High Pass.  But answering the above questionS will better help us help you.

You can put the tweeters anywhere? Really? That's just not true. Putting them closer to the woofer will give a better stereo image. Also highs travel avery narrow path so it is important to make sure there is no obstructions between the tweeter and your ear. Running the amp on full range will put signal into the tweeter that it can't handle? Really? He said he was using the Alpine passive cross over. The amps active cross over setting has nothing to do with the signal to the tweeter.

With 6x9s in the rear deck and a woofer to boot, you definitely need to use the high pass filter of your amp or radio.  Why beat up your smaller speakers having them trying to produce bass when you have other speakers that can do that for you.

You can install the crossover at the amp if you like.  it makes no difference.
