When hooking up a set of component speakers to an amp . does the amp see both the mid and the tweeter or  does the passive crossover make it so the amp doesnt  lower impedance?

   thanks

A properly engineered crossover will allow the amp to see either only one driver at most frequencies.  At the crossover frequency, the amp will see both drivers but at a reduced level.  At the crossover frequency, each driver is playing but at a level that is 3dB below the rest of the frequencies.  So at the crossover frequency, each driver is receiving 1/2 the power that it sees at an octave below or above that point, depending if you are talking about the mid or the tweeter.  Both drivers combined will produce a relatively flat response at the crossover frequency.

Ok i think i get it , So then its the crossover creating a situation (for lack of the proper term)  where the amp seeing 2half powered speakers treats the pair as one.

Yes but that only happens at the exact frequency of the crossover point.  All lower than that frequencies will only be played by the mid/woofer.  All frequencies above the crossover frequency will be played by only the tweeter.

Your understanding is correct.  But that only happens at the frequencies very near the crossover point.
