I have 2002 Ford explorer sport trac Pioneer edition and I'm looking for a and harness that will fit. I want to install an aftermarket HU and retain the use of my factory amp/sub and speakers.

I looked all over the place and would also like to find the wiring diagram for this vehicle.

I found this information on Crutchfields if it will help.
In the 2003-04 Pioneer Sound System, there is an amplifier that powers the front door speakers and the subwoofer (mounted under the L/R seat). The amplifier must be bypassed when an aftermarket stereo is installed. Either run wires from the new receiver to the output of the factory amp or to the speakers directly. The amplifier is located behind the back wall trim panel access door.

Thanks all

I have never heard of having to bypass an amp in that vehicle, besides the amp having failed. Audiovox lists a blue wire for amp turn-on. Have you carried the factory radio into your local stereo shop so they could see if they had the correct harness for that deck?

Thanks for the response,
I brought the original Pioneer HU into one of the more reputable installers and they sold me the metra 70-5519 harness adapter.
It has two rca plug on it. I can't locate a factory wiring diagram for this particular setup.

does the factory plug properly fit into the harness you purchased?

hi,
the 8 pin harness has left front + & -, right front + & -, sub + & -, and amp remote. the shields of the preouts would connect to the respective -'s. the hots (center pin) to the respective +'s. the remote lead would use the resistor in line as mentioned to alleviate the turn-on pop.

pin 1 ...RED / black sub-
pin 2 ...BROWN / orange sub+
pin 3 ...light GREEN / WHITE lf-
pin 4 ...dark GREEN/ violet remote
pin 5 ...dark blue / YELLOW lf+
pin 6 ...light GREEN/ violet rf+
pin 7 ...light GREEN/ orange rf-
pin 8 ...not used

might need to get a metra 70-5702 for an extra rca pigtail..not 100% sure if that is the right part number. the shop you purchased the 70-5519 from will probably be able to help.

Hi, yes both plugs from the 70-5519 fit perfectly. Ween you said I might need the 70-5702 thats the one that came with the 70-5519.

It came with the 16 pin main harness and 8 pin harness with two rca plugs.

your discription of the 8 pin looks very close to whats in the truck.

pin 1 ...RED / black sub-
pin 2 ...BROWN / orange sub+
pin 3 ...light GREEN / WHITE lf-
pin 4 ...dark GREEN/ violet remote
pin 5 ...dark blue / YELLOW lf+
pin 6 ...light GREEN/ violet rf+
pin 7 ...light GREEN/ orange rf-
pin 8 ...not used

Below is what  I have code color coding from my truck the colors may not be perfect because it was late and I was using a flashlight.

where I say factory clip location is where it clip or locks on to the harness.

My numbers do not match on the 8 pin harness but I could have it upside down.

from your discription of the 8 pin harness it looks like the amp is powering  the sub and front speakers.

I've searched all over and I just can't find a wiring diagram the closest I came up with was 2003 ranger with audiophile system.

https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/radio_wiring_diagrams.html

It does explain the sub and front speakers running through the amp. the pin placment is spot on but the colors don't match up.

i was saying an extra 5702 piece to obtain an additional pigtail..three rcas corresponding to lf, rf, and sub.  you'll probably have to depin the adapter connectors to meet your requirements..the factory connectors pinout.  try at least a 1.5K ohm resistor  in series on the remote lead.  i've had good luck with around 4K but that is on newer ford systems.

So if I understand right is purchase another 70-5702 and pull one off the rca out and push it into the other amplug to make it a 3 x rca out?

Hope i'm understanding you correctly. I haven't played with car audio in about 20 years. so I'm a noob when it comes to this but I'm learning alot.

Thanks for your help.

yes, but as i said, you may have to remove all terminals from the housing and then replace them into their respective positions. an additional thought, are the terminals on the 8-pin connector laid out 2 x 4 grid style (90deg) or is there a slight stagger to them? i believe metra has a harness that is of the staggered variety, no rcas just wires. you could solder rca ends on those.

That will probably be my best bet. I'm starting to get a better picture of this now.
So I would have to get 3 female rca on the 8 pin amp harness in there correct pin orientation.

pin 1 ...RED / black sub- ----------------RCA- to amp sub input
pin 2 ...BROWN / orange sub+---------------RCA+
pin 3 ...light GREEN / WHITE lf- -----------------RCA-LF SPKR AMP input
pin 4 ...dark GREEN/ violet remote gos to Blue/White AMP REM on hu ?
pin 5 ...dark blue / YELLOW lf+ -----------------RCA+ LF SPKR AMP input
pin 6 ...light GREEN/ violet rf+ -----RCA RF+ SPKR AMP input
pin 7 ...light GREEN/ orange rf- -----RCA RF- SPKR AMP input
pin 8 ...not used

How do you read the pins is there a standard? Because when you say pin position 1 it could be read top right to left then bottom right to left? It also depends how your holding it...
Sorry to ask dumb questions

Here's what the Metra 70-5519 looks like.

the terminals look staggered on the 8-pin. mate the connector to the vehicle. see if the RED / black lines up with the shield of the rca, that will be your pin 1, next to it in a row would be 2, 3 and 4.
5 through 8 follow on the next row beneath...1 opposite 5 etc.
the missing terminals on the 16-pin are 3 and 4...shouldn't be needed on your aftermarket head unit.

The search gods were good to me last night I noticed on the 2003 Ranger wiring diagram that the part number for the connector was C290a

and when I did a search.

https://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/paynlessauto/2009-09-28_013229_pioneerconnector.pdf
I think this will be all I need.

I will wait for it to warm up a bit and then I will head out to the garage. It's cold here right now...LOL

Again thanks for your help.

if you can get the 290b connector also, that will be the amplifier input harness, at the rear of the radio.

Plug C290b It's on page 2 . as you stated before

pin 1 ...RED / black sub- ----------------RCA- to amp sub input

pin 2 ...BROWN / orange sub+---------------RCA+

Do you know why Pin 1 is listed as RX signal and Pin 2 TX signal.

Or is that just Fords way of confusing things.

i think it's ford confusing things...look at how the connector at the amplifier is labeled, circuit numbers are the same, descriptions different.

Done, pulled out and dusted off my soldering iron and turned my C290b 8 Pin 2x RCA into 3X RCA. Used my multimeter to test polarity and every thing is checked and looks ready to go.
I used a dental pick and small screw driver to push the pins out, that was no easy task. found an RCA plug and soldered them on.
so it looks good to go.
It gets dark here before I get home from work so I will wait till the weekend to give it a test. I will let you know how it go's
Again thanks for your help.
