I am new to car stereos, so I have no idea what I am doing. I bought a powered subwoofer, it is a rockford fosgate r300-12(that's what the description was lol) and I am putting it in a 2007 Chevy cobalt ls, with the stock head unit. I have no idea what I am doing lol. I don't want to take it to best buy. I don't want to use the words install help lol. Thanks in advance

Did it not come with a manual. I know not about the newer rockford equipment, but the older stuff had a pretty detailed installation section in the manual.  Read that and do the parts of it you understand, if you have a problem with a few steps of it, post back here and we will be glad to assist you.

well it came with instructions but I don't understand a few things. it has a spot for a 'source unit accessory lead or switched 12v source'. I don't understand what that even means. maybe someone can look at those instructions and explain them for someone who has no clue what any of this means.

the wire you are speaking of is a wire that may need 12 volts to be applied to it to make the amp come on. most radios have a wire on the back that would hook to this wire.
BUT.....
you might be able to use your amp without hooking that wire up.
hook everything else up and try switching the "auto turn on switch" to "audio" and see if the amp turns on and off with the stereo. if that dont work slide that switch to "DC Offset" and see if that work for ya. during these tests make sure and try to use the stereo like you noemally would.
if these two trys dont work out, you will need to hook that "source unit accessory lead or switched 12v source" to the power antenna trigger wire that comes from your radio. alot of newer GM radios use a pink wire for this. but if you end up needing to hook it up this way, confirm this before taking my word for it.

my guess is that if you get all the other wires hooked up properly, you will be able to use that switch and not have to hook the trigger wire up.
