Doing some searching around
I think I can just run the power to a big orange wire in the Ignition Switch Harness and that should be fine right?
This way I wont need to spend the big bucks on the Harness. However my brother will lose the functions that the factory radio has like the door chime and I think the oil light, tire pressure???
Oh also I dont believe this has onstar
But I think they said it does have the bose sound system. Does that change anything?
Read a post that someone said you should put a 10amp fuse on it too? Is that correct?
I didnt understand if he was talking about if we tapped into the big brown wire that is at the fuse box that we should use the 10amp fuse or if we tap into the ignition switch hardness then we should use the fuse too.
Any input would be great! Thanks
Okay sorry for so many questions......I just keep finding more information on the interenet and I dont know what to believe or not lol
I am going to take this from a post I just found from searching on google. It says this:
You are going to have to purchase a special wiring harness to install an after market deck in this vehicle and depending if you have onstar or not they range from $130.00 to $180.00 if you dont get one of these wiring harnesses and install an after market deck you will have system failures. It could keep car from starting also, cause lights to flash on and offand slowly work through your cars computer system messing everything up.My advice would be to have it done by a professional
Is this true? If its true then It might be best to just buy the harness. We figured we would just tap into the Ignitiion Switch Harness for now and purchase the harness and install it at a later time.
I dont want to end up messing up my brothers car lol.
I am going to be looking at my brothers car tonight now since my dad cant seem to get it hooked up correctly. I am kind of thinking he might have the wrong wire harness since my brother said he bought it from some small time audio shop for like 7 dollars. But we were just going to get it hooked up without the stock radio until he can afford to buy the proper wireing harness.
I think im gonna go get the Scosche GM06B T Harness for this car which seems to only be around 50 dollars? Even though a well known local audio shop said they have the harness he needs for 110 dollars. So I think that might be something a little different?
Well either way I guess my dad got power to the cd player now by hooking up the power to the orange ignition wire harness in the dash but then they couldnt get sound to the speakers.
What could be causing this so I have an idea where to look when I get to it tonight.
I will let you guys know a little more when I actually look at it so I know what he bought too which might help to know whats going on here. Anyways any ideas would be awesome! Thanks much.
I don't recall ever seeing a Bose system in that car, nor does Metra list one but...
The expensive harness retains the door chime. If you can live without that, run the accessory wire to the ignition switch and be done with it. If it does have a Bose system, does he have the blus turn on wire connected? this is needed to turn on the amp.
