I need help on choosing a HU I need active crossover, TA, and an eq wouldn't hurt. Had to sell my 9887 a while ago and had to go back passive with my 9807(Alpine). I really loved the 9887 but wondered what some other options were. I want to keep it under $300 but will pay more. Thanks for your help.

My setup (96 Civic)

Adire extremis woofers (door)

Seas Tweeters (a pillar)

Peerless mid (kicks)

2 Id 10's

ARC 6 channel, ARC mono

Why not consider an external crossover?  You can pick one up for a lot less than $300 and then you're free to use any head unit you like.

I considered that but I like the 24 bit DAC.

Eh?  So get a head unit with a 24 bit DAC.  This has nothing to do with using an external crossover.

I know but that means a 24bit DAC headunit then an external crossover. Which would bring up over my budget. I prefer the headunits with theses already built in i.e the alpine 9887. I am looking for sub $300 units that fit those categories. I don't mean to go on a rant. I was looking for suggestions like the Eclipse 7200mkII or the pioneer 880 but those 2 are out of my budget. Sry for this confusing post.

Gotcha.  Unfortunately I don't think you're going to find anything of value that has the features you want for under $300 unless you cruise the used market.

Well what about under $500 any suggestions besides the ones I listed? Just want some choices so I can sift through em. BTW DYohn I really appreciate your time.

I recommend the 9887.  It's probably the best sounding head unit your're going to find.  The new Nakamichi line (CD400 or CD500 should be in your price range) is supposed to sound good but I haven't played with them yet.

I need some help choosing a mid for a pillar mount to incorporate a 3way, domes or cones it doesn't matter. Budget is not an issue so don't hesitate to throw them at me.

No matter WHAT we suggest, if you put them in a pillar, it's going to trash whatever frequency response or voice blending we might have in mind.

What's your goal? SPL? Pick anything that'll handle the power you want to provide. SQ? Don't put them in the pillars, (ever) and you'll certainly come up with quite a few suggestions from this group...

You can use the A-pillar as a mount location as long as the tweeter is there too.  Why don't you describe the setup you have in mind?

That's what I meant mid and tweeter in the pillar. Well I was thinking a Vifa xt25, and not sure on the mid and woofer(5 1/4) just yet. I see that most of you guys like the speakers in the doors but my civic's doors don't have that much room so I considered the pillars. I considered using Glen's cheap adjustable pillar mounts and how about using those on the doors?

Door panels here (not mine but same kind)   posted_image
