So we just bought a '98 Malibu with this unit in it...But the display is really bright at night- so bad it is distracting.  So, I figure, the display dim wire must not be hooked up, and I pull unit out today, and there is no such wire.  The car OEM wiring for instrument lights and for parking lites are both just taped off- attache to nothing.

I googled and got the installation wiring diagram and it appears that diming the display is not an automatic feature-- WHY NOT?  I thought aftermarket radios were supposed to be superior to OEM.  I sure wish I had the OEM radio in it now.

Any words of wisdom?   Thanks

One would think a big name like JVC would recognize this issue- makes me wonder why in this day and age we have to riggggg things.

Well, it is a lower-end unit, so often many things are left out to meet a target price point.  And that model dates from 2003.
