I feel embarassed posting this question as I have read that most of you all have $500 and up focals and Mirels and all that, but I am just a 40 y/o Dad with 2 children under 4 that wants to make his new (2010) daily driver (Honda Civic lx 4 dr) sould a little better when the family is in the car, and have a litte bump in it when the children are not in the car.

Here is what i have thought about so far (and looking for any other suggestions of course) but simply along these lines.

Deck: Alpine CDA 105

Sub: One Alpine SWR1243D 12" in a ported matching box

small 4 ch amp: Alpine KTP-445 Head unit powr pack (4 ch x 45 rms) and plugs right into back of alpine deck.

Sub amp: Alpine MRP-M500

And the big question is, FRONT COMPONENTS.... THere are a lot in the 100-150 range and I know what Im looking ot spend is low for a decent set of components, but give me some suggestions.

I have been looking at things like:

Alpine Type-S SPS-600C

Diamond Audio D363i or the D363.5 models

MB Quart Premium PVI216 6.5

Polk Audio DB6501

Infinity Reference 6030cs

Again, I know these are not "top grade" systems, but just something better than these factory honda crap and something that will be getting 45wrms to.

So ANY suggestions anyone has will be greatly appreciated. And please do not say EVERYTHING under 200 is junk and tell me to spend 500. There are probably hundreds of others who come to this site with the same exact question I posted, but afraid to be slammed for having a family and being on a budget.

Thank you all very much and amazing site for us entry level DIY'ers.

For the power you are wanting to throw at these speakers i would probably go with the polks. The mb quart premiums need a good big of power to sound good and personally to me they have way too much tweeter and are extremely bright for my tastes. Alpines usually sound pretty good too but ive never heard them. The diamonds sound nice but the tweeter blows way too easily on the d3 level. And the infinitys are probably in the same category as the mb quarts for being too bright for my tastes but they will do good with less power than the mb quarts. Hope that helped

Thanks for the advice and the well explained reasons for each. I have heard a lot of good things from the Polks in the entry level price range.

Any other suggestions i may have left out?

Thanks again

I personally am hard of hearing and enjoy the top end that the Quarts offer. If you drive with the windows down that is another factor to consider. Yes the quarts are bright but they can always be tuned down to satisfy. That set of speakers in particular were a really great set.

yeah gd topic, ive added a sub and amp to our family van, and a member told me i needed to upgrade my front doors and rears . i got 6x9's front and back, i was just wanting to replace the speakers first before i did a 4 channel amp install.
i gotta alpine mrv-f250 4 channel sitting under my bed, but not wanting to get that deep into it just yet,
So im thinking about getting sum 6x9 2ways not for sure about which brand yet.
im not trying to take over your thread just adding my project to it, another thing your rite on the money with the comment about being on a budget. between my wife and kids and pumping up both vehicles audio systems it doesnt leave much for topend equipment
