Okay it has been a long time since I have posted on here but I have a question and want to hear some opinions from the professionals on here. I have a Kicker L7 15 Dual 2 ohm speaker wired into a 1 ohm load to match my KX1200.1. I have it installed in a 1998 Ford Explorer. I just recently built a new box as the one I had was not the right box for it. I have the schematics of a Kicker recommended box which is 3 cubic feet with a slot port. I had to L the port for best results in my instalation. On the kicker diagram, with the dimenstions of the port as it is it is supposed to be tuned to 35 hertz, but the dimensions ran through the calculator show it is between 38 and 39 hertz. When I redone the port to fit my application, I followed what was recomended by Kicker. I was doing some research with the dimensions of my port on here and came to find out that my port is tuned between 37 and 38 hertz. The closest htz to my length was 37.75. Now my question is, some people I know brought their termlab down to my friends house yesterday and I got some odd readings. I hit 142.9 dbs at 49 hertz. What are the factors that have changed my tune from between 37 and 38 to my loudest point at 49 htz. I am happy with the output of this box, I was just trying to understand how it could change so much. Any help is appreciated. ty

I'm betting that you are reading the cabin peak of the Explorer. It won't matter where you tune the box, a sealed enclosure will hit right about there, too...

Besides, it's an L7. That's Latin for "One Note Wonder". }:>

Thats the thing, the box is ported... So I guess that is just the cabin gain where the system reaches it greatest sound point... Where the tune of the box and the tune of the car are matched? Would it be possible now that if the tune is 49 hertz in the vehicle that if I tune the box port to 49 that I would acheive maximum spl output?

Mine was a guess. *IF* your cabin resonance is actually at 49Hz, then, yes. Tune the enclosure for 49Hz, and 49Hz your brains out! :P

I would do some research in th SPL arena, and see if there is something noted regarding the resonant frequencies of some of the more popular cars in the game; I bet you there's Explorer info out there.
