ok hear the deal im lighting the load in the trunk so im thinking from going from 2- 12" alpine type r 2-ohm to either 2 alpine type r size 8" or 10". my thought for going to a size smaller is i want to put the shallow mount subs in the rear doors of my cadillac .on the car has fiberglass panels(yea its gonna vibrate) so what are all y'all thoughts. or should i just keep my 12s and go with fiberglass enclosures

depends on what your willing to give up.  If you like the sound, but are willing to give up some volume, just use one 12.  Going to 2 10 is not going to save much wieght unless box is signifcantly smaller.  8".......

A fiberglass box built with lightweight core material will save weight but $$$$$

The shallow mounts won't give you the same performance, but they will help with mid base, and then the 12 for lower end.

Or just fill truck with helium.

It may be just me, but if I had my choice between a conventional 6" woofer or a 12" flat, give me the 6"

Nope. It ain't just you! Flat woofers nearly ALWAYS exhibit terrible distortion curves. Stick with the conventional drivers.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

thanks guys its that those subs weigh about 30lbs i think and the box is 100 so im trying to lighten the load , fiberglass is an alternative . i was looking for a picture example of a sub enclosure that fits from the wheel well to the rear end of the car and i can fit one on each side. vie been told and heard these subs perform better in ported/vented than sealed has anyone designed or say a one sub enclosure that is vented in fiberglass looking for example to build upon

I have always hated shallow subs and have also hated alpine but the new type r shallow mount stuff has given me nothing but fantastic results so far. Some what pricy in comparison but they work well.

My customers are the most abusive people on the planet.  Have you had any failures at all?  We may have to try them.

I have some of those customers too. The only failures I have had so far was when we put WAY to much power into the vehicle and the customer decided he knew how to set his gains better than we did, other wise no failures what so ever.

ok guys i did some searching and i found this sub
https://www.crutchfield.com/s_500SWR823D/Alpine-SWR-823D.html

its free air so i would be able to cut circles out of my rear dash and mount two of them there because its a 6 inch cutout but 7 and some change for the overlap of the sb . i got all my amps to fit in the wheel well of the car will post picks later, but my new setup was to be 2 mrp-f300 and one mrp-m2000 to run my two type r subs. i know that amp is too much for those subs so im going to have o modify my amp rack no biggie. but my question is would any of you recommend cutting those circles out of my rear dash or just go with shallow subs in the doors.
