Subject: amp turns off but still puts out power

I have a 01 Audi A4 and I have a 1000watt kenwood amp hooked up to two 12" dual Subs. I decided to put two LED strips hooked up to my amp so the lights go with the music and cause i didnt know what else to do with them. I hooked it all up and it works great but when i turn the car off, both of the LED strips stay on even after leaving the car and coming back a few hours later, their still on. The amps LED light that indicates if it's on turns off when the cars off and turns on when i start the car so it appears as though the amp turns off but apparently it's still putting out power since the LEDs stay on. Any help would be appreciated.

What did you use for the remote trigger power?

I use the the wire on the back on my headunit. I made sure it's the amp turn on and not the constant 12V.

Are you sure the LED strips are wired across the amp output (ie, the speakers)?

No it's wired directly to the power and ground of the amp, not the speakers. Here's how the subs from my system are wired... the subs are hooked into the amp which has a ground and power wire going to a 2.0f capacitor and the LED strips, then from the cap the ground wire is wired to the car about 8in away and the power wire is wired to my battery. But when I turn off the car my cap still says 12.2 then it will turn off eventually but I unlock my car it will say 12.2 again for awhile. could the cap be sucking the power?

If you have it wired to the power and ground terminals of the amp, then they're always getting power.

What you'll need to do is wire the positive wire to the remote turn- on terminal instead of the power terminal. -You want to use a relay, but I doubt it'll be needed since LEDs don't draw very much current.

The display on your cap will shut off if the voltage doesn't fluctuate for X amount of seconds. It always has power as well, it just knows when to "go to sleep".
