I have a 98 Jeep Granke Cherokee with a 10 speaker Infinity Gold package. I decided to add a sub, so i tapped into the rear door speaker leads after they exit the stock amplifier and ran those tapped leads to my new amp. I also tapped into the remote turn on lead for the stock amp and used that as the remote turn on for my new amp. The problem im having is that when the car is started the sub does not function. The power light in the amp turns ON, but there is no output from the sub. Then, when i QUICKLY power off and back on the head unit, the sub begins to function normally. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Is it a voltage issue from the remote turn on? (My amp is an MTX RT202) ???????????

Did you test your remote turn on lead for the amplifier to see if it was supplying 12 volts when the truck is turned over ?

Are you running a High Input signal to your sub's amp, or did you install a Line Out Converter?
You might want to try running your remote lead from the ignition harness if you're not getting the 12v after the factory amp. ------------- Squirrel

I did test the voltage from the remote turn on when the car was started and when i quickly powered off and back on the head unit. The results: 1.6V when car is started, and 2.3V when head unit is powered off and on. (The only reason i could see the voltage readings not being accurate is that the voltage changes so quickly that the multimeter has difficulty measuring it. The wiring digram I have of the system says that the remote turn on IS being supplied with 12V, but readings that far from 12V make me wonder if that is right. (Why would the amp work with on 2.3V if it needs 12V?) In regards to the signal I am using... I am using the amps high level input harness... not a line out converter. Maybe I should try the Soundgate TRIGLOHD. That way the remote turn on would always supply 12V. What do you think? Thanks for the hlep thus far.

I'm not familiar with the Soundgate adapter. I would suggest running the remote from the ignition harness instead.
Amps will turn on if the remote has power (even if it is not 12v), but they will not function properly. The remote definately sounds like your problem ------------- Squirrel

Just something to think about. You say your feeding amplified power into your new amp high level imputs. This may cause your new amp to blow. You can get line level adapters with adjusters to lower the imput signal to your new amp.

If you change your input signal, you would probably be better off using a Line Out Converter (LOC) like this one. I'm not endorsing any one product, just giving examples. That one from AudioLink is a good product though, and is has gain adjustments for both Right and Left channels. I think you would deffinately notice a difference if you switched to a Low Level signal (RCA). ------------- Squirrel

I finally got around to getting a LOC this afternoon, and the addition of the LOC alone solved the problem. I just wanted to thank everyone for the help.
