just bought a new car 2000 Cadillac Deville but it only has a am/fm cassette i picked up a head unit and a basic wireing kit hooked it all up and no power to the new headunit?
has anyone installed a head unit and subs in a deville? or know ways to trouble shoot.

does your car have the factory Bose system and/or Onstar? do you have a digital volt meter so you can test whether or not you have 12 volts on the yellow and red wires? which harness plug did you buy exactly?

That Caddy does not have ignition power....it's data.  If you look at the harness you bought and trace the red wire back to the factory plug, there is nothing there.  We usually tap the brown wire at the key switch (add a 5 amp fuse) and create an ignition circuit that way.  I would recommend relocating the factory stereo to the glove box and leave it powered up, otherwise your keyless entry may not work properly and you may have a couple of other issues.
