Current setup:
2006 Mitsubishi Galant
270 amp (200 idle amps) alternator
Rockford Fosgate T1500-1bdcp
DC Sound Labs lvl 4xl 12" in custom box
Rockford Fosgate T600-4
JL Audio C5-650x
Rockford Fosgate T3652-S
Kinetic KHC2000 battery

What I'm wondering is if I should upgrade my sub amp to something with a higher RMS, or switch subwoofers. I don't feel that I'm getting the desired output from my current sub, but I know my RMS on my amp is low (1900w @ 1ohm) for the lvl 4xl.

if you want more output then i would first build another box. just because its custom doesnt mean its the right box to give you what you want. what are you hitting on a meter? i know that sub is a beast but you can only expect so much from a single 12 while still being somewhat musical.

I haven't metered it yet, the box was built to specs posted by DC techs on their forum (or so i'm told, could just be a turd that they glued a double thick front on posted_image ).

I dont really believe in manufactures specs. If they always gave you the best box design right out of the box then it would be too easy.

Do you know what frequency the box is tuned to or supposed to be tuned to? What are you looking to get more of? More impact, more punch down low?

If I had the tools I would make the box myself, but such is life. It is 1.5 cubes 33hz, rounded / glassed corners.

honestly what i'm looking for is more overall output. it hits low, and hard, but it just "feels" like there is way more that it could be doing. maybe i need to borrow someone's meter and check it.

sounds like you want to tune your box a little higher. low tuned boxes tend to lack overall volume. if you do end up building a new box then i would shoot for 38Hz - 45Hz. some pepole like to tune even higher but i dont really like how those boxes sound because you will lose pressure on notes that are lower then your tuning frequency,
