this truck has been a pain in the ass from the get go... but heres what the deal is.
2x 12inch kenwoods + 1050 jenson amp
was running 14 gauge wire from amp to subs and they were going great.. smelled smoke, subs cut off, looked back and there was smoke coming out of the sub box
shut everything off went back to check and the terminal @ the right sub was fried and melted. thought it might have been the ground wire so i re-grounded it in a new sanded spot in the chasis
amp protect went on and is still on
cut the wires out from the terminal and tried directly splicing them into 14g wire - subs still wont turn on and amp will not leave protect
what do i doooo??
***UPDATE*** i can direct connect the wires into atleast 1 sub and my protect turns off as long as the volume is EXTREMELY low (barely audible) and the subs sound weak(possibly blown? i hope not) once the volume is turned up slightly, protect kicks back on in the amp and sound is cut off again
connect 1 sub at a time. If one sub works and the other kicks the amp into protect that sub is blown
yep im 95% sure they are blown, what do you think would have caused them to blow and the wiring melt? everything seemed pretty tight/locked down so i dont think it was a loose connection at all..
im grabbing a pair of 12in kickers today don't want to blow these things cause of the same problem
As long as you arent overpowering the subs, IE Noise, you should never be able to blow any sub, unless it is just complete crap to begin with. If the ground is good, and you arent turning the volume/bass up too high on the radio, and you are within the amp/sub power band it can not fail.
That is alot of IFs lol
