Is it advisable to use a line out converter hooked up to the outs of a factory amp? Specifically a 2004 camry with navigation. I cant find much specs on the factory system. Without having the car right now to test, i dont know what the factory amps power rating is, but we want to go with an aftermarket amp and all new speakers but need to keep the factory nav. Any problems i should know about?

it shouldn't be a problem. I have used a Metra line output converter several times in Tahoe and Expedition. I have tapped off the factory sub (which is being fed by the factory amp) and added aftermarket subs.....

What should i expect for sound quality? the output from the amp could be crossedover already. What about completely eliminating the factory amp? Is that possible? I really cant find much about this year/model to determine whether or not it has an amp sense function.

there are many converters availible you can use, better quality converters can handle higher inputs and have a cleaner output. the lesser models tend to be less quality. i purchased a lesser converter for my gf's accel to run a pair of 8's. it had a low rating but there was no need for the expensive one. factory output was fairly low. adjust line output to the the amp. but remember your tapping into the stock amps output power so take it into calculations in order to know which converter to buy. if quality is what your after the higher priced is the way to go for quality.

Quality is an issue, i dont expect a huge improvement, but even with the cheap ones it couldnt sound worse than the factory system considering the tweeters are blown, or could it? All the info i find, is people trying to add subs. Im replacing the stock speakers, not adding subs, so if there is a problem with sq then it will be more noticible. Also there seems to be a fairly large gap in prices between cheap line out converters, and more advanced units like the cleensweep. Any suggestions less than $100 that have 4 channels, in and out?

Just pull the nav and use the outputs off it, or use the inputs to the factory amp. This way you won't need a converter at all.....
