SPL = Sound Pressure Level...

an SPL sub is designed to play loud and hard...moreso than a regular sub...

what "SPL" sub are you planning on buying? alot of "claimed" SPL subs arent really SPL subs, they just use it as a marketing tool to sell to people who arent as thoroughly educated on the subject...

Have to agree with you Big Purds the word SPL gets used all too often now days. It seams like every sub out there is designed for SPl when you know 90 % of them are just plain marketing lies kind of like the 6000 watts max power thing. But to answer your question kcirdnek most SPL subs can be used as an everyday listener.

The kind of sub I was thinking about getting was the new Premier TS-W1500SPL 10" sub.

You will not have a problem using that sub, It should not be associated with a true SPL sub it just a marketing lie like Big Purds said. So to answer your question yes you can bang on it like any other regular sub out there. Also i would sugest you use a 1.0 cu/ft per sub sealed enclosure.
