I am trying to replace two blown 6x9's in the front doors of a '99 Jeep GC. I have done some basics before, including this same thing in my own 626, but this is someone elses, so I am kind of paranoid. Is there anything I should be on the lookout for? It isn't going to be available to me until the day I am supposed to do it, so does anyone know if I am going to have to remove the door cover, or just the grill? Any tips and/or advice would be taken seriously and appreciated, even if it is just to fork over the $40 for a pro to do it. Thanks.
1. remove cap and screw at top front of door panel
2. remove 1screw from arm rest cup
3. Remove T-25 torx screw from behind door release handle.
4. Go around the outer edge of the door panel and use a panel tool or large flat screwdriver to pry around the edge to undo those plastic clips. I've found it works best if you get as close as possible to the actual clip before prying on the panel--if done properly all the clips will remain in the door panel (and not on the door itself) when you pull it off.
5. Pull out and up on the whole door panel until it pops off the door
6. make sure no connectors are still plugged in to the door panel switches, before setting the whole panel aside.
Now you are able to get to the 4 screws holding the speaker in
Sounds as easy as my mazda was. Will post on results, thanks for the tips.
