I have a panasonic CQ-VD7700U. I pulled my radio out of my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee because I sold it. The radio has been boxed up since. I have now installed it into my 2000 Mazda Protege. When I turn the key to the Acc. position, all the LEDs are eluminated, it will eject, tilt, beep, and take a cd but no sound however, the unit will not turn on with the mode/power button depressed. Any ideas? When I pulled it out of the Cherokee I may have grounded it out and I think when I took it in for repairs in Korea I don't think they fixed it. Does the unit have firmware, can I possibly download this software from somewhere. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Depending on what you mean by "grounded it out" you might be able to bring it back by pressing the reset switch.  See page 85 of your owner's manual.

I have tried to reset, still not working. Grounding it out by when removing the radio power touched ground somewhere and it sparked. Installed in new vehicle and this is where I'm at. I have tested all fuses internal and external, all cables (ohms/continuity) and all are good. I have no electronic testing equipment other than a multimeter and test light, I can remove and install resister,, processors, powersupplies and etc... Like I said earlier All leds light up, it beeps (speakers are working even when I reset you can hear it through the speakers), I press the eject button and it ejects, but no screen almost like it is mission it's operating system. Thank you for the response I hope this helps

Hmm, sounds like you fried something on the motherboard when it sparked.  Sorry man, i don't know enough about those to help further.  Drop a PM to member "i am an idiot" as he's a lot more savvy about internal electronics of head units than I am.

Yep! I sure did. I fried 3 or 4 of the RCA inputs on the lower board. Do you think that could do it?

If I do fix it, would I loose the firmware, and have to re-write the system with the firmware on a cd?

Does anyone know any good radio repair shops near Ft Campbell, KY/Clarksville, TN area?

Thanks for your response, maybe savvy will see this post.

sounds like you dont have accessory power to the radio. if you take the red wire from the radio and jump it to the yellow wire from the radio does it come on and play?

different radios do different things when they only have a constant wire powered up. some wont do anything and others will let you eject and do other stuff like see the time but they will turn off again after a few seconds.

if you grounded out either power wire when you took it out then a fuse should be blown somewhere. usually the fuse will blow in the car you took it out of so you still shouldnt have a problem but maybe there is a fuse on the red wire of the radio that you didnt check.

If I were you I'd doodiecan it and look for a new head unit.  Probably cheaper than repairs and certainly more reliable.

I would like to purchase another unit like this one but can't, the Army doesn't pay me enough plus have to support my family. I have electronic skills and would like some help in finding replacement parts or a repair shop. Do you or anyone out there know of any?

For "soundnsecurity," I have hooked up and checked and rechecked my wiring multiple times and have checked it and all is reading good. This unit is equipped with a hide-away unit, all power is supplied to the hide away unit to the radio. The only wires from the back of the radio is the input cable from the hide away unit and a noise suppressor which all checks out. I did however short the lower radio printed curcuit board. In fact it is the pre outputs. I tried to repair but no luck. I hope this helps

I appreciate everyones support. I guess either my repairs to the radio board or when I replaced the fuse on the hidaway unitand it finally payed off. Anyways it works and I am happy that it works again. And I thought I was going to have to throw away a $1,200 radio. Thanks again for everyones support.
