I'm putting a small sealed enclosure in my 2011 Toyota Tundra CrewMax using a pair of the MB Quart Reference RLP 254 (so two 10" subs). They are dual 4 ohm voice coiled, 300w RMS, 600w Max, with a frequencey response of 25-160.
I have two spare amps, the Orion HCCA 2500 and the Orion Cobalt 8001. Which amp would be best to run those two subs?
I'm thinking the HCCA might overwhelm the subs, since I've read online that the MB Quart shallow subs wear out over time.....
I'd use the Cobalt. It's rated at 400 watts into 2-ohms which should be plenty with those subs.

they are dual 4 ohm subs and he has two of them. lowest ohm load would be 1 ohm. i would run the HCCA and wire the subs together at 4 ohms which should give you around 600W and a lower distortion rate due to not running the amp at its full rated capacity.

I think due to space constraints I'm going to lean towards the 8001 after all. So it's best to wire them into 2 ohm?
if you have two subs that are dual 4ohm then you wont be able to wire them to 2ohms total. your options are 1 ohm, 4 ohms, or 8 ohms. id use the cobalt amp only if it is rated to be stable at 1 ohm. otherwise you would have to wire your subs to 4 ohms which wouldn't give you very much power.

Thinking about picking this up, it appears to run stable at 1 ohm, so it should run these subs well?

Ah, silly me. I need to read more slowly. Thanks for having my back

If I use the Cobalt amp and wire the subs at 4 ohms, will they simply not be powered to their potential? Or will they not play at all?
they will play fine just dont expect a lot of output.
