Is it possible to have an externa l switch that can change the resistance to your subs from 2ohms to 8ohms. I know the conditions necessary to run 2ohms successfully, but I'm still curious. Again this is purely hypothetical, so I don't have any specific models in mind, but its just an interesting idea and I was curious if its been done successfully before. The only issue I'm having a hard time figuring out is how to wire a switch that changes the wiring from series to parallel...anyone have experience with this or done it before? First post so be kind...thanks in advanced for any info.

Do you mean to wire four 2R subs to 8R?

Lets say for example, its 2dvc subs that are rated for 4ohms, is it possible to change the resistance from 2ohms to 8ohms with the flip of a switch? Lets say 2ohms at a car show and then flip the switch to 8ohms for the ride home? If someone wants to run 2ohms (with a suitable amp) on certain occasions and then flip a switch to run 8ohms during normal, every day situations. Basically, is it possible to wire a switch to change the wiring from parallel/parallel to series/parallel

Well... yes, by adding resistors, or more coils. The 2R or 4R resistors etc will take the same power as the equivalent 2R, 4R subs etc - but waste it as heat instead of sound.
The question is why?
But I'll let others provide more meaningful answers...

I don't want to do it by adding resistors because I know the heat it will cause and it would be pretty pointless ... I mean to do it as almost 2 seperate circuits that could be selected with a switch

So add other subs instead...
Otherwise the answer is no. Switches merely switch, they do not convert impedance etc.
They can combine different resistor to make others - eg, 2x 4R in series for 8R, or 4x 8R in parallel to make 2R.
Your 2x 2R coils can be combined for 4R or 1R (R = Ohms), but that's it.
Another dual 2R or single 4R can be added to your 4R above to make 8R...

actually you can do it with relays. obviously it wont change the resistance of the coils but you can change from series to parallel.
heres the diagram. its pretty complicated and keep in mind that they are 30amp relays so dont think you can hook them up to a huge amp and have them survive for very long.
edit: gave you the wrong diagram, its the diagram right above the one that will pop up when you click the link. -------------

Switches, relays, whatever...
But not with one only 2Ohm or 2x2Ohm subs etc.
If OP has multiple coils/subs, cool.
The 2 4R subs wired as 2R (parallel) to 8R (series) is easy (as per the above diagram), but I wasn't sure if that's what brandonnajarian meant...
Sorry for the confusion.

I think this diagram is more of what you are looking for.
