Subject: Amp Won’t Turn On Through Remote Lead

Few days ago I ran a quick wiring job to see of everything worked, and it did; the subs were playing just fine, with the green power led on the amp constantly lit. I removed the wires from the truck afterwards.

Today I am doing everything the same way as before, however, the red protect led on the amp quickly flashes and turns off, and the amp won't turn on.

Here is how everything was wired few days (and this was working perfectly):
I'm running a wire from the 15amp ACC fuse under the dash to a Clarion EQS746 EQ. I make a Y end in this ACC fuse wire so it's split into 2 ends. One end of the Y goes into the EQ's12v input, the other into the EQ's remote lead. So basically, whenever the car is on, or if the key is in the ACC position, the EQ comes to life. So the ACC fuse wire acts as both a 12v source and a remote lead for the EQ.

From the EQ's remote lead post I ran a wire to the amp's remote lead input. 2 days ago this setup worked: I turned the car on and both The EQ and the amp turned on and stayed on. Today only the EQ comes to life, but the amp won't turn on (the red protect led briefly flashes)

Any help/suggestions GREATLY appreciated. I'm starting a consecutive 7 night graveyard shift stretch tomorrow, I really want to finish the install today

It sounds to me like the remote signal is trying to turn the amp on but the amp is going in to protection and shutting itself down. This makes me think the problem is not with your remote wire.

How much voltage do you have from your remote wire terminal to the ground terminal at the amp? How much voltage do you have from the amps power terminal to the amps ground terminal?

Do you have speakers hooked up to the amp? If so, disconnect them and see if anything changes.

Do you have RCAs connected to the amp? If so, disconnect them.

If you have amp inputs (RCSs) and outputs (speakers) disconnected and you apply 12vdc to the amps power terminal, the amps remote terminal, and you supply a good ground to the amp it should come on. At that point, connect the RCAs and make sure the amp doesn't go in to protection. Then, if all is well, connect the speaker wires. If at any point the amp goes in to protection the last thing you hooked up is most likely the problem.

I double checked everything with a multi meter and sanded my body at the ground bolt for the amp.

It turned out to be the amp's chassis ground, either it wasnt sanded enough or I didn't tighten the bolt enough.

Working now.
