I'm looking at replacing my factory system with the old one I had in my last truck. It's been years since I've done any stereo work, new technology sux.. I don't have onstar, don't have Bose, no navigation..
I'm wondering how do I find out for sure if I have a factory amp? I see in other posts people are saying it's under the center console, just remove the cup holder and tray, but I have the 60/40 split bench, nothing under it..would they put it somewhere else, or is it safe to bet I don't have one?
Next, is there any chance I could wire something to my cellular interrupt wire on my older Alpine hu to retain my door (and more importantly low fuel!) chimes rather than pay the stupid amount they want for a harness adapter?
Forgive my ignorance..I'm just an aging guy trying to relive my haydays without breaking my wallet...:)
Thanks!

I should also mention that there is only one wire harness that plugs into my factory hu, the wide white one.

You can get a cheap harness with chime only pretty cheap online. Under $50 for sure with the options you have. I think the GMRC-01 or GMRC-02 is what ya need. Depends on if you want the chimes through the left front speaker or an onboard speaker in the harness. Super simple to hookup. 99.9% sure that the bose amp was the only amp available in 04 and if the door panels arent plastered with BOSE, you do not have an amp.

Metra LC-GMRC-01 retails for 70 dollars. It retains your door chime and also retained accessory power.

Right, thanks for the replies, but I was actually referring to the $50-$70 harnesses that I'd like to avoid paying for..i used to think that $30 was outrageous for a 16˘ part, but that's technology for ya..it can be your best friend if you have deep enough pockets!
Being that my hu already has a provision for cell interrupt, is there a way to write my chimes into it? I really don't mind some extra cutting and splicing...
thanks again!

No, you can't simply splice a few wires and get around buying the adapter.  :)  GM uses a Class II data bus system and the Metra adapter contains the proper electronics to make the system think the stock head unit is still installed.  You need to spend the money to retain your chimes.

I did not read carefully the first time, I thought you HAD Bose, the metra 70-2003 will work for that vehicle.
