OK I had this discussion with a brother of min and he wants to go from a stock stereo in a 07 Malibu and throw a 1200 HU in it and, add subs amp etc.
The question for this post is in this digital age who would buy a 1200 stereo if you can buy a ipad carputer or tablet that can do what this radio can do and more

you are right about the limitless features of an ipad being nice to have in a car its still not made to be in a car. a car is the worst environment other than maybe outer space to have an electronic device.
the 1200 dollar double din will probably sound a thousand times better than having an ipad linked to amps through a whole host of audio adapters. not to mention issues with ground loops from the power adapter that a lot of people have when the do the same thing with a laptop.
ipads arent designed to be used safely in a car while driving.

Your right about the ground loop. But you just have to find a good grounding spot. As for the adapters and cords a standard 3.5 mm / RCA adapter and spilting that doss the trick. Also ipads have the large buttons
