I am lookimg to install an aftermarket stereo in my 1997 BMW 740iL. I understand that it is not easy because of the DSP and PI-Bus communication. Can anyone tell me how or if an aftermarket can be installed.

Assuming you have the version that has the single din radio located to the left of the clock display then it is not any more complicated than a standard deck install. You don't even need a dash kit. You WOULD however need an antenna adapter which metra lists as a 40-vw10 and I would recommend a wiring harness to make your life easier which metra lists as a 70-8950 or a 70-8951 if your system is amplified.
