I installed Kappa speakers with tweeters into my car that had factory tweeters already. I ran the tweeters to the factory tweeter lines and they eventually blew. Instead of buying a crossover a budsy suggeated i use a 3.3k resistor on my new tweeters instead of using a crossover. Would this work? Thanks.

No it won't work. Tweeters are only designed to play specific frequencies. They must be used with crossovers that are designed to their limitations. Crossovers are composed of capacitors and coils. The original tweeters my have had crossovers attached to them. Use a proper crossover for the new tweeters or have them burn out very quickly.

Did he maybe suggest a 3.3 microfarad capacitor?

did you unhook the factory tweeters when you installed the new ones? if not then that was also probably part of why they blew because you lowered the ohm load that the factory amp sees so it was sending more power, which was probably also full of distortion because factory amps are set up to run the factory system and nothing else.

you should always have a crossover installed on any tweeters. bass blockers arent good enough because i dont think they make any that are rated to filter frequencies high enough to provide any relief for your poor tweeters. at the very least you need a capacitor with the proper value to match your tweeter's recommended lower frequency response limit.

an actual crossover is still better because they like to throw in other goodies that help protect your tweeters and smooth out their response.

I removed the factory tweeters and ran everything to an amp ... they played well for a while .. I will be putting in Soundstream tws4 tweeters for now ... any suggestions on how I should hook these up.

so first you say you ran them to the factory tweeter wires and now you say they were ran to an amp... what amp? factory amp? aftermarket? how big is the amp? how many speakers are on the amp?   so how exactly is everything wired?

those soundstream tweeters are supposed to have an inline crossover which is probably just a tiny capacitor on the back. to hook those up you should just have to hook them to another speaker wire. they are 4ohm tweeters so you need to make sure you amp can handle the extra load

Alright this is how it is hooked up. I have Kappa Perfects in the back door with the tweeters that came with them hooked up through the crossover. The front is the same except I did not run the crossover just ran the tweeters to the factory tweeter wire. (I do not have the crossover that came with the set anymore). I installed a Pioneer radio and ran the factory speaker leads from the back of the radio to an after market amp which is KENWOOD KAC-2404S CAR 4-CHANNEL 500W. After a while the tweeters blew. I will be putting in a pair of Soundstream TWS.4 Car speaker - 110 Watt tweeters to replace the blown Kappa speakers. The tweeters did not come with any capacitor hooked up to the back of it or in the box. It might be internal I am not sure. I wanted to know how can I best hook these up without buying another crossover. After reading the posts a 3.3K resistor and Bass Blockers are out of the question. I just want it working for tomorrow because I am taking a road trip for a while, once I am back I will do something more crazy. Any suggestions on how to hook them up so I wont blow my tweeters.

Wouldnt it be better to hook them to the tweeter lines
