epicenter

I have a 12 Inch W7 being pushed by a Logic 4000D (2000 RMS) amp. I have an epicenter and I feel like it isnt doing much for me. I always have the knob all the way down or quarter way because after that the bass sounds blotchy. I have both settings on the epi too half way. I was wondering if a chip would help. I have this box:

I know it is crappy, but how would I tune the port more on this if I was to go for a chip. One of my friends was telling me he could move the chip down for my on the epicenter and it will sound much crazier for 20 bucks but for all that I would just buy me a lower frequency chip. What does moving the chip down even do?

if you are looking for clean bass then the epicenter is the exact opposite of what you want. the epicenter is a bass restoration processor so you are no longer getting the natural bass of the song, you are hearing a synthesized and heavily processed bass note. this is fine for a competitor that only needs to play one note to win a trophy but as a listener it is complete garbage.
the chip changes the center frequency of the notes being synthesized so depending on what it is set to now and what you will change it to it might sound a little better but it could also make it sound worse. which way this goes depends on how your sub and box handles the change.

Geez, where were you when I was discussing bass restoration processing?! (I think other was trying to teach ME about fundumentals and harmonics! Maybe too Fourier and DSPs....)

a w7 in a ported box? maybe thats the problem.

i would try to seal the port and see what you get. use some dacron stuffing too.

a w7 with a port and an epicenter is probably unloading below the port frequency.

Yes, as indicated above, the first thing I'd do is get rid of the epicenter.

theres nothing wrong with having a W7 in a ported box, but as always, it has to be the right ported box. prefab boxes will probably not sound that great.

also on the epicenter, make sure it has a cord to the dash knob that actually has 4 wires in it. some people use a walmart  or dollar store cord that fits better for length but only has two wires in it. it will plug in fine but will not operate the epic correctly.

the wrong cord will make you want to smash the epic with a hammer.

if your amp really has that much power i think i would dump the epic and seal that box and put threadlock on every bolt in the car....LOL

of course sealing that box might cause the W7 to bust the box eventually.

for now perhaps i will seal the box with a towel .. the cord is the one that came with the epicenter. do any of you know or heard of moving the chip down to make it louder? how would i go about this? and what does it really do?

its not about how high or low you have it set, up to a certain point anyway, raising or lowering the frequency will only work if it puts the frequency closer to the actual tuning frequency of your system's peak frequency. and thats really only how to make it louder so it still wont make it sound much better.
